Before your lawyer can file a medical malpractice claim on your behalf in court, your lawyer must first file a claim with the Maryland Health Claims Arbitration Office. Within ninety (90) days of filing that claim, your attorney must file a certificate of merit from a qualified expert, which is a statement from a professional in the relevant medical field confirming that your provider failed to meet the standard of care and caused your injuries.
