Larry N. Burch is a successful trial attorney practicing law in Maryland and Washington, D.C. as well as before the military courts, and a former Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Mr. Burch has been practicing law for over 30 years and is the author of “Understanding Military Divorce Law“ (Aspatore Books, 2016) — a guide for military families facing divorce or separation. Most of Mr. Burch’s work involves civil litigation in cases involving divorce, child custody, protective orders, personal injury, business and construction disputes, as well as military and security clearance matters.
Military Service (Active Duty 1992-1996; Navy Reserves:1996-2007):
During his active-duty military service, Lt. Commander Burch served as Senior Trial Defense Counsel and as Department Head for the Navy’s Legal Assistance Offices in the Washington, D.C. area, advising military service members, retirees, and military dependents on a variety of legal issues. Mr. Burch was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal for outstanding work as a trial attorney.
LCDR Burch has represented uniformed service members at dozens of contested courts-marital and hundreds of administrative hearings; including Boards of Inquiry, Administrative Discharge Boards, Physical Evaluation Board hearings, Security Clearances hearings, Boards for Correction of Military Records, credentialing hearings and in internal command matters.
Civilian Attorney (1996 to Present):
As a civilian attorney since 1996, Mr. Burch has represented clients in state and federal courts and before military courts and military personnel boards on a variety of legal matters, including, medical malpractice, auto accident cases, business and corporate litigation, family law, and military personnel and administrative matters.
His particular area of expertise lies in advocating on behalf of military and uniformed service members in courts martial, security clearances revocation hearings, administrative hearings, Boards of Inquiry, internal command investigations, and disability hearings. He is familiar with military discipline matters, military personnel and administrative review matters, and issues pertaining to military promotions and advancement.
Mr. Burch has been the managing partner of Burch Law Firm, LLC (and its predecessors) since 1996 and was a Partner at McMillan Metro, P.C. in Potomac, Maryland from Aug, 2019 until Jan. 2022.
Mr. Burch has appeared on Fox 5 News and on WUSA-TV 9 news in Washington, D.C. as a commentator on military legal issues. Mr. Burch is licensed to practice law in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and before the military courts as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.
