Summer Intern Diaries-Working at Houlon Berman: Day One

My name is Adam Firestone and I am going to be blogging about my experience as a summer intern for Houlon Berman. I am a rising college Senior at the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!) majoring in Political Science and minoring in History and SEC Football. I am also planning to begin law school in Fall 2015. Like many other students my age, I am beginning to enter a “post-teen crisis.” This is the time in a college student’s life when they realize they are almost a “REAL” adult, but not yet sure what they want to do with the rest of their life. I am hoping this internship will help guide my decision of what I want to do with my life post-undergraduate and law school and to learn a lot about what it’s really like being an attorney. Maybe by the end of the summer I will be able to give an answer to that nagging relative who asks me what kind of lawyer I want to be, besides my usual retort “the one that makes the money.”

So you may ask what qualifies me to blog about this summer internship. Well I did take the LSAT already so basically I’m already a lawyer! In actuality, I have a lot to learn and can offer a glimpse into the life of an attorney from an outside perspective. With so many great legal shows on TV from Law & Order to Suits, I want to offer readers of this blog a view of what a real law firm is like and what a real attorney does day in and day out. As a long time reality TV buff, I like to think of this blog as my own reality show, “Survivor: Legal Internship” (the title is a work in progress), only it’s actually real. I hope to blog about the lessons I learn from experienced and talented attorneys and great stories I come across for the duration of my summer internship. Don’t worry, these posts won’t consist of how badly I jammed the copier that one time or of a Starbucks run gone wild! I will keep the stories as real as possible while keeping in mind that I am required to respect attorney-client privilege.

I can’t wait to start this great summer experience and hope that many of you continue to follow along as my internship journey commences. To get updates directly and follow this blog, “like” Houlon Berman’s Facebook page or visit https://www.houlonberman.com/.
